Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has admitted he wants to see long-term Manchester United target Joao Neves join him at the Etihad.

Neves is believed to be one of United’s main targets in the club’s efforts to strengthen their midfield.

With Casemiro and Christian Eriksen increasingly keen to leave Old Trafford, a big money move for Neves has been mooted.

A few days ago, it was claimed that United made an offer worth around 60 million euros for the 19-year-old.

The offer is said to have been swiftly rejected by Benfica, who remain adamant they will only part with Neves if his £103m release clause is triggered.

United are not the only party mentioned to be looking at the Portugal international. Arsenal are also admirers of him and could look to make a deal over the border.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person reports that Erik ten Hag’s side are planning to submit a second and improved offer in a bid to secure Neves’ signature.

Now Bernardo Silva, who is in the Portugal squad alongside Neves, has insisted he will get in the Benfica star’s ear to convince him to join the City ranks if he decides to switch to England.

Asked about United’s links with Neves, Silva said The game“I would tell him to go to Manchester City.”

“It’s not easy. He is a player who, given his success last season, has many clubs interested in him. As a Portuguese and a player I like, I would like to see him next to me. But I wish him the best.”

Silva added: “I don’t need to convince (Pep Guardiola), Joao Neves is already convincing, with the way he works, with the energy he brings to the game. It will be easy for many clubs to enter the race.”

“Let him make a decision, let it be the best for him. If he continues with this energy, he has a very good future ahead of him.”

Neves has made great strides in his career since making his debut for Benfica in 2023. He has made 75 senior appearances for the Eagles so far.

In the 2023/24 season alone, he played 55 games and scored three goals and two assists during that time.
