Manchester United’s wingers on both flanks let down manager Erik ten Hag last season and there are plans to rectify that moving forward.
Federico Chiesa of Juventus has been linked with a move to Old Trafford with the Turin-based outfit looking at a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho heading in the opposite direction.
The Red Devils would prefer a straight sale but as per Tutto Juve, the Italian winger remains of interest with the player contemplating whether to stay at the Bianconeri or move to a new club.
He can play on either wing while also as a withdrawn forward or support striker, allowing Ten Hag the tactical flexibility to play in a number of different ways.
Chiesa drama continues
Bayern Munich are also in the race and both European heavyweights are likely to offer a higher salary than what he gets in Turin but it remains to be seen what he ultimately chooses.
“Chiesa faces the difficult decision of accepting the new contract terms or considering leaving. This situation has created uncertainty for the player.
“Interest from big European clubs such as Bayern Munich and Manchester United remains evident, adding an element of urgency to the ongoing negotiations. With a contract until 2025, Chiesa has a number of options on the table, but Juventus will not give any discounts.”
Injuries have meant the 26-year-old is yet to regain the form he was showing four years back when he regularly netted double digit goals.
Chiesa managed only four goals apiece in both the 21/22 and 22/23 season and there were concerns whether the player could recover fully from his anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Chiesa’s form and injury record are worrying
But there are positive signs as seen from his club displays last season when the Italy international netted 10 times in all competitions.
However, he struggled during the recent European Championships and his current market value stands at €35 million, a price no team is likely to match considering his injury record and form.
Also, is Chiesa really an improvement on what United have in their ranks currently? That answer seems debatable. It looks more like the player’s agent is trying to drum up interest in his client in order to get a better deal from Juve or earn a move within the country.
The Italian does not seem like the solution to United’s problems and INEOS’ interests are better served looking elsewhere.
