Manchester United remain in promising talks to get the deals for both Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui over the line, as per reports.

United travel to London for Saturday’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City with a depleted backline. Among senior defenders, only Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, and Diogo Dalot are fully fit for selection.

Erik ten Hag will have to work around the crisis at the back against Pep Guardiola’s men. However, he might be handed two new defenders before the end of August.

The club’s hierarchy continue to work on reinforcing the side’s defence, and it appears they are not giving up on their pursuit of De Ligt and Mazraoui.

As per multiple reports, the former Ajax duo, who are represented by Rafaela Pimenta, are keen to reunite with Ten Hag this summer.

Still, United have struggled to find an agreement with Bayern Munich so far. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Red Devils are considering ending their pursuit of De Ligt.

However, reliable German journalist Florian Plettenberg has shared a relatively promising update on both deals.

Plettenberg says the “clear tendency” at this stage of the window is that Mazraoui and De Ligt will “join Manchester United in August”. He adds: “If all goes to plan, a double transfer will be completed.”

It is claimed United and Bayern continue to have positive negotiations, with Ten Hag pushing to bring his former Ajax stars to Old Trafford.

The Bundesliga outfit are willing to sell and “progress is being made.”

The arrival of De Ligt and Mazraoui would be a huge boost for United. If signed, the Dutch centre-back is expected to challenge Leny Yoro for the starting spot on the right side of United’s defence. Meanwhile, the versatile right-back Mazraoui is likely to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.

In that regard, the future of Wan-Bissaka, who remains on West Ham United’s radar, has the potential to have a big say in this transfer saga.
