Manchester United struggled to score goals last season, with the Red Devils emerging as the lowest scorers among the Premier League’s top 10 teams.
Although it was his debut season, Rasmus Hojlund did a decent job and finished as the top scorer with 16 goals. However, the team also needed the remaining forwards and wings to step up.
However, Anthony Martial has been injured for most of the campaign and is set to leave this summer, while Marcus Rashford has suffered a major dip in form and hasn’t even broken into double figures.
The Mancunian’s future remains uncertain, which is also the case with plenty of other wide forwards. Antony looks like a disastrous signing and could be moved, while Jadon Sancho is also looking to escape United hell.
Wings are needed
The 20-time Premier League champions are reportedly interested in Crystal Palace star Michael Olisse, but so far, Crystal Palace are refusing to budge on their £60m asking price.
It is well known that the Old Trafford side are under the glittering concern of PSR and need to be smart with their recruitment and not be all dumb in the market.
If the Eagles do not lower their asking price, United could be forced to look elsewhere, with journalist Ben Jacobs revealing that arch-rivals Leeds United could be under attack in the summer.
Crysencio Summerville, who has had a stunning season in the Championship, could be watched by the Red Devils, with the Dutch star reportedly available for half the price Olise would fetch.
The Netherlands Under-21 international scored 21 goals and registered 10 assists to be Leeds’ top scorer, and his play combined with the fact that he is only 22 and has a proven Premier League background makes him an attractive proposition for a number of clubs including INEOS.
“Summerville is easier (than Olise), there is no formal release clause, but there is an acceptance from Leeds that they will listen to offers,” TBR quoted Jacobs as saying.
United are looking for a Leeds player
“Leeds need to make money because they are not back in the Premier League. I expect Summerville to be available between £30-35m. Chelsea is one of the teams looking. I think Manchester United could come into the conversation even though they haven’t progressed anything definitively at this stage, but he’s a lot cheaper.
“If it’s the financial balance or if they think they’re not going to get Olise, they’ll enter into that conversation. I’d also keep an eye on Newcastle who are vaguely interested in Olise but can’t afford £60-65m for him. Summerville is a budget option and clubs will look to take advantage of the fact that Leeds are not promoted.
“We should also add Liverpool, as I have reported many times, another in the mix for Summerville.”
It remains to be seen whether Leeds will agree to a deal with United. The Championship side consider United a rival and even though they are a division below them, fans would be upset if the club decided to sell their winger to the enemy.
Other Premier League clubs are in a better position for that reason, but that shouldn’t stop INEOS from trying.
