Manchester United defender Gemma Evans is reportedly on the brink of joining rival club Liverpool.
Emma Sanders of BBC reports, “Manchester United defender Gemma Evans is close to a move to rival Women’s Super League club Liverpool.”
“Both clubs and Evans have held positive talks and she is closing in on a permanent transfer this summer.”
If the transfer gets over the line, Evans will be Liverpool’s second addition of note so far. The Merseyside outfit kickstarted their transfer business by singing Olivia Smith from Sporting CP.
Before arriving at United, Evans had spells with Bristol City and Reading.
She also represented Yeovil Town earlier in her career.
Last season, the defender made 19 appearances for Marc Skinner’s side across all competitions. She managed one assist in that period.
12 of the 19 matches Evans played in came in the WSL.
She made her debut for United during a 1-1 draw with Leicester City in October last year.
It appears that United’s acquisition of defensive duo Dominique Janssen and Anna Sandberg paved the way for Evans’ exit.
Earlier this summer, the Reds confirmed the signing of Jannsen as a free agent from Wolfsburg. The Dutch defender put pen to paper on a three-year contract, with the option of a further season.
At the start of this month, United also officially unveiled Sweden international Anna Sandberg, whose contract runs until the end of the 2026/27 season, with the option of an additional 12 months.
It’s likely that Evans would have seen her playing time drastically reduced and so elected to seek pastures anew elsewhere.
