Manchester United Women stars Maya Le Tisser and Grace Clinton have been nominated for the 2023/24 PFA Young Player of the Year prize.
The PFA Awards have over the years been a cornerstone event in the English football scene.
As confirmed here by United, players in the Women’s Super League have been voting to determine the standout performers last season.
The winners will be announced and honoured during a ceremony on 20 August in Manchester.
Le Tissier bagged a nomination from her peers after a sensational season in red. The defender featured in every league game for Marc Skiiners’s side.
She also helped United keep a clean sheet in the 4-0 FA Cup Final win over Spurs. The trophy represented the women’s team’s first major piece of silverware since their formation in 2018.
In April this year, Le Tissier put pen to paper on a contract extension to extend her stay at the club.
Clinton on the other hand, spent the year out on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.
The versatile midfielder registered four goals and as many assists over the campaign, hence her recognition as a deserving nominee by her league peers.
Clinton’s contributions saw Spurs finish within the top six and of course, reach the FA Cup final. The 21-year-old made her England debut in February and marked the occasion with a goal.
Unsurprisingly, it’s believed that Skinner is eager to keep Clinton, effectively scuppering Spurs’ hopes of retaining her on a permanent transfer.
To win the PFA Young Player of the Year prize, Le Tissier and Clinton will need to ward off competition from Lauren James (Chelsea), Aggie Beever-Jones (Chelsea), Khiara Keating (Manchester City) and Jess Park (Manchester City).
