Manchester United started their week by announcing the sale of Willy Kambwala, and now they are edging closer to parting ways with another academy product.

The French centre-back, who moved to United’s youth setup from Sochaux, is set to ply his trade in Spain with Villarreal from next season onwards.

While Kambwala is moving to Spain, Mason Greenwood, who restarted his development in Spain with Getafe, is tilting in favour of shifting to France.

Writing in his Daily Briefing, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the United forward is attracting interest from Italian giants Lazio and Napoli as well as Olympique Marseille.

All three clubs are thought to be in talks with the Red Devils, who are very keen to permanently cut ties with the player to raise transfer funds for this summer’s business amid financial fair play concerns.

However, it is Greenwood who has to make the final decision on his future. In that regard, Romano claims that the English player is prioritising a move to Marseille.

The Ligue 1 side are also reported to be optimistic of luring Greenwood, having offered more than €25m to the Old Trafford club for his services.

Recently, their new manager Roberto De Zerbi suggested he would support Greenwood should he decide to join Marseille despite his controversial off-the-pitch past.

De Zerbi said (via Sky News): “The only thing I can tell you – it doesn’t matter who the player is. Once he signs for the club where I work, so here, they become like my children. I protect them against all the odds.”

Lazio, who tried to sign Greenwood before he moved to Getafe last summer, have also been ‘aggressive’ in their pursuit for the 22-year-old, as per Romano.

However, the transfer expert added that Marseille are leading the race for his signature at the moment. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested the same in his latest report.

Di Marzio claims that Marseille are expecting Greenwood’s final ‘yes’ by Monday evening.

The French giants have allegedly already reached an agreement with United for the versatile forward, who bagged eight goals in La Liga last term.
