Manchester United’s summer transfer business is beginning to kick up a notch as reports swirl over impending arrivals, both up front and at the back.
The Red Devils have reportedly agreed a deal for Joshua Zirkzee while his national teammate and former Erik ten Hag protege, Matthijs de Ligt is also close to agreeing a deal with the Old Trafford side.
As relayed by The Peoples Person earlier, United’s summer budget is not that high after years of poor decisions in the market, and the club will look to sell players to balance the books as the window progresses.
Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, and Facundo Pellistri are just some of the names linked with an exit while the name of Scott McTominay has also been doing the rounds and for good reason.
McTominay attracting plenty of interest
The Scot was extremely effective for Ten Hag’s side, helping United win 12 points from losing situations, emerging as one of the most clutch players last season.
The academy graduate notched 10 goals and three assists in 27 starts across all competitions, proving to be a great super-sub for his club when the chips were down.
Quite a few Premier League clubs like Fulham, Newcastle, West Ham and Southampton have been linked with a move for the Scotland international but as reported by Football Insider, United are in no rush to sell the 27-year-old.
They are aware that the midfielder is one of their most sellable assets and a bidding war could see the club earn a major windfall considering his sale would represent pure profit owing to the fact that he is from the academy.
However, Ten Hag likes the player, as does INEOS, and will only sell him later on based on their transfer plans moving forward.
United will not sell, for now
“Man United are in no rush to sell midfield star Scott McTominay despite big reported interest from Premier League rivals, sources have told Football Insider.
“It has again been widely reported that McTominay is a target for other top-flight clubs, with Fulham, West Ham, Newcastle United and Southampton all linked.
“But Man United are in no rush to allow the Scotland international to leave early this summer with their own transfer plans still under development.”
McTominay’s contract with the club is valid until June 2025, with United having the option to extend it by a year.
