Manchester United are reportedly trying to steal Aston Villa striker Jhon Jader Duran from under Chelsea’s noses.

The Red Devils are desperate for a boost in goal-scoring as they regularly struggled to find the back of the net last season.

United are reportedly preparing a bid for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee as they aim to support young frontman Rasmus Hojlund, who has had to lead the line alone for much of his debut campaign.

United have also been linked with strikers such as Viktor Gyökeres and Ivan Toney, but links with these two options have been few and far between in recent weeks.

Colombian radio station Antena 2 reports that “in the last few hours it has been revealed that Manchester United and Fulham in the Premier League would also be among the options” interested in signing Duran.

Chelsea have been interested in the player for some time, but it became clear that “the Colombian’s negotiations with the Londoners are at a standstill and both will enter a bid for his signature”.

“However, it is worth remembering that Aston Villa will not let one of their best players go easily at the end of the season. The villains have stated that they will stay at the club unless someone pays his release clause of around €40 million.”

Duran played 37 games in all competitions and scored a total of eight goals in his debut season in England.

The Villa striker is currently part of the Colombian squad preparing for COPA America which starts later this week.

The 20-year-old has been described as a player who has “become one of the most outstanding players in the Colombian national team” and is part of a group of young players in the squad who will secure big moves in the future.

He was also credited with having “fantastic physical attributes” and “is really good in aerial battles and is great at protecting the ball with his body. He is also quite quick and a regular danger to run in behind the opposition defence.”

However, it also has to be said that the player has hardly set the Premier League on fire, so fans may find the prospect of a deal a bit overwhelming even if he is just a backup to Hojlund.
