Manchester United’s summer transfer window not only involves deals coming and going, but also deciding the future of several influential first-team stars.

After a poor season, Marcus Rashford’s future remains up in the air, with the Mancunian even meeting new co-owners to try and secure his position at his boyhood club.

Amad Diallo, who has enjoyed himself brilliantly in recent months, is reportedly set for a key role moving forward, but he still wants assurances from the manager over his playing time.

However, fans are desperate to know what the club intend to do with Bruno Fernandes after several reports suggested the Portuguese was ready to leave if the club wanted to.

Fernandes’ future

Several media claimed that he cannot be sold and that he could move if a huge offer arrives, such is the current financial situation at the club.

The club captain is open to staying if United reward him with a new and improved contract that would make him one of the top earners, while INEOS must also show ambition in the market.

With Erik ten Hag’s future secure, the chances of him keeping hold of the influential midfielder have also increased and now The Manchester Evening News claim that should the Portuguese star decide to stay in Manchester, the club would consider extending his contract.

Fernandes’ current deal runs until 2026, with an option for an additional year, and he earns £240,000-a-week (according to Capology), less than Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and even Mason Mount.

However, United do not currently think handing the 29-year-old a new contract is a priority as INEOS have decided that talks over a contract extension will not take place during that period. However, they also believe the player’s agent will demand a pay rise if he stays at Old Trafford.

“A new contract for Bruno Fernandes is not a priority for Manchester United, but the club would be open to a renewal if he stays beyond the transfer window.

New contract

“Fernandes attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Inter Milan this summer due to uncertainty surrounding his future, partly fueled by the player.

“United do not plan to negotiate new contracts with existing players during the transfer window, and Fernandes is tied to the club until 2026, with the possibility of an additional year.

“United anticipate that Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, could approach them over a new contract later this year if Fernandes is not sold.”

The Portuguese international is by far the club’s best signing since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and fans want him to stay. The ball is now in INEOS’ court.
