Joshua Zirkzee’s arrival has given Erik ten Hag more options in attack while Leny Yoro’s signing considerably strengthens the backline.

There is however work to be done in midfield where the team really struggled last season. Casemiro was a major disappointment with INEOS looking to move him on this summer.

But so far, no Saudi team has come forward with a bid and that has meant a deal for Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain is yet to materialise despite the club agreeing personal terms with the defensive midfielder.

There were reports which stated the deal could collapse if United do not raise capital through player sales and that the Red Devils were even contemplating a loan approach.

Ugarte deal

But according to Foot Mercato, the deal is close to completion with an agreement between both clubs expected soon.

There was reported interest from other suitors but the Uruguayan made it clear that he only wants to join the Old Trafford side.

“Under contract until June 2028, Manuel Ugarte is preparing to leave Paris Saint-Germain, just one year after his arrival in the French capital.

“According to our latest information, the Parisian club is about to reach an agreement with Manchester United for the Uruguayan midfielder.

“According to our latest information, an agreement is now close to being reached between PSG and Manchester United.

Deal close to being agreed

“Several clubs are currently interested in the Montevideo native, the latter has, however, already warned the reigning French champions that the Mancunian team is his number 1 choice.”

While no fee is mentioned, PSG are reportedly looking at €70 million, €10 million more than what they paid Sporting Lisbon for him in 2023. United will need to move on Casemiro or Scott McTominay to be able to afford that kind of money.

The money recouped by PSG would be used to sign Joao Neves, another United target as they feel Ugarte is not the right fit for them. Hopefully, the Copa America star can shut his critics up once he lands in Manchester.

United have continued to keep Sofyan Amrabat as a backup option should they fail to land the 23-year-old workhorse.
