Manchester United need to move players on if they are to continue with their planned recruitment drive with plenty of big-name stars set for the exit doors.
Despite Erik ten Hag’s wishes, INEOS want to move on Casemiro as well Victor Lindelof but Talksport have now claimed that one player who is not going anywhere is Scott McTominay.
The midfielder has already been the subject of a few bids from Galatasaray but the club turned them down while the player himself asked for a humongous salary package, well beyond the Turks’ means.
There is also interest from within the Premier League but United’s asking price of £40 million might be difficult for teams like Fulham to match. West Ham have already left the race.
New contract for McTominay
Alex Crook’s report mentions that United want the academy graduate to sign a new long-term contract with his current deal ending in 2025 though the Red Devils have the option of extending it by a year.
“Manchester United are ready to extend the contract of sought-after Scott McTominay to keep him at Old Trafford. This time last year Man United were open to offers for McTominay, who was attracting interest from West Ham and Newcastle.
“But the Scotland ace went on to become one of the Red Devils’ standout performers, scoring ten goals and helping them win the FA Cup.”
It was expected that the 27-year-old would be departing last summer but the Old Trafford side rejected West Ham United’s £30 million approach.
McTominay deserves to stay?
And after the goalscoring season he just enjoyed in the last campaign for both club and country, the 20-time English league champions will be in no hurry to move the Scot on.
He was the club’s most clutch player, popping up with huge goals, while always being available for the team, something the manager really liked.
His performances have always divided opinion among fans who expect more technicality from the midfield ace but one cannot argue against his effectiveness.
He might not start as many games but as a super sub, McTominay used his ability to ghost into the box on numerous occasions last term and United would be foolish to let go of someone of his calibre and love for the club.
