Manchester United are reportedly ready to step up their efforts to land Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inassis.
Strengthening the defense department is a high priority for Sir Jim Ratcliffe, especially after the confirmation of the departure of Raphael Varane. With Jonny Evans also set to follow the Frenchman from the club and the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, United certainly need reinforcements in that area of the pitch.
A number of alternatives have been discussed including Leny Yoro, Jarrad Branthwaite, Ronald Araujo, Marc Guehi, Aaron Anselmino, Edmond Tapsoba, Antonio Silva and Max Kilman to name but a few.
Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Inacio is another option that United are exploring.
The Italian journalist explained that Inacio has been discussed internally at Old Trafford and although his move is not guaranteed, he should be kept an eye on.
The Red Devils are not the only team from the Premier League that Inacia follows. Liverpool are also interested in him and admire his attributes.
Inacio is understood to be protected by a release clause in the region of €60 million.
Portuguese publication O Jogo now claim that United will “soon present a proposal” for the 22-year-old Sporting centre-back.
The news explains that Inacio is “highly wanted” in England, and United in particular have been following him for a long time.
The 20-time English champions are now ready to pounce and have decided to pursue Inassis regardless of whether Erik ten Hag is sacked or not.
Sporting are very likely to demand that the Almada-born star’s full release clause be paid before they allow him to leave for pastures new.
Inacio made 32 appearances in the Portuguese League for his side as he helped them win the domestic top flight.
