Manchester United want to sign Sverre Nypan but will have to fend off interest from a Premier League rival if they are to complete a deal for the talented youngster, according to Christopher Michel.

The German reporter reveals United are “still interested” in the 17-year-old midfielder, who is “himself a fan of the club”, but have yet to formally approach Rosenborg – the team the youngster joined as a 13-year-old – with an offer.

Nypan has previously described how it would a ‘dream’ to play for the Red Devils: “It would be a dream come true for me if I could play for Manchester United. I know that the club has expressed interest.”

United’s interest in Nypan is long-standing, with a report relayed by The Peoples Person in April revealing the club’s recruitment team were tracking Nypan with a plan towards signing the Norwegian starlet next year.

Nypan turns 18 in December and would only be eligible for a move to Old Trafford at this point. The January transfer window would, therefore, represent the perfect opportunity to strike a deal; which is exactly what Michel reveals Arsenal are planning to do.

Tweet: “#MUFC still interested in #Nypan. The player himself is a fan of the club. But #Arsenal also wants to enter the race for Nypan & hold concrete talks soon. MUFC has great appeal in Norway, but they must be careful not to miss out on a Nypan-transfer.”

The German reporter reveals the London club want to “enter the race for Nypan” and plan to “hold concrete talks soon.” The 17-year-old has previously been compared to Gunners’ captain Martin Odegaard with Arsenal scouts believing Nypan “can develop in a similar way”.

Consequently, Michel contends United “must be careful” not to miss out on a deal for Nypan to their rivals.

After 19 games for Rosenborg this season, the midfield starlet already returned 5 goals and 6 assists. A recent standout performance against Lillestrom saw Nypan score a hat-trick as he helped his side to an emphatic 4-0 win.

INEOS, who gained full control over the football operation at Old Trafford in February following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ratification as the club’s new co-owner, have demonstrated a commitment to buttressing United’s academy as much as the senior squad this summer.

While a vast outlay has been dedicated towards the first-team signings, the club have also acquired a number of highly-rated youngsters in the form of Sekou Kone, Chido Obi-Martin and Samuel Lusale.

It would be no surprise, therefore, if INEOS welcomed the recommendation of United’s scouts and prioritised a move for the talented Nypan ahead of their Premier League rivals.
