Manchester United scored the lowest goals in the Premier League on their way to a dismal eighth place finish, their lowest in the competition’s history.

Erik ten Hag’s prohibitive style of play was a big factor behind the low number of goals scored, as was the lack of options at his disposal.

Rasmus Hojlund is currently the top scorer with 16 goals, which is quite a decent number considering that this is his debut campaign. But the club needed much more than its front man.

The Dane arrived after a year in Italy, which is apparently not enough to enter the English Premier League. The 21-year-old has been inconsistent, scoring on rebounds while struggling in other games.

Rasmus needs help

The former Atalanta starlet struggled with the Englishman’s physical game, and the Dutch manager foresaw these problems and asked for reinforcements in order not to overburden the Danish representative.

Anthony Martial has remained consistently on the sidelines, the story of his United career, while Marcus Rashford’s exploits off the pitch have generated more buzz than his on-field performances.

No help came from the Glazers, neither last summer nor in January, and Ten Hag were forced to continue playing Hojlund despite his decline and the fact that he was clearly overworked.

But the new co-owners of INEOS want to correct this shortcoming while also trying to avoid blocking the development path of the Danish killer. The ideal signing is someone experienced, who can hit the ground running, can play with his full-back in goal and someone the United striker can learn from.

Real Madrid’s Champions League hero Joselu has been linked with a sensational move to the Theater of Dreams, and now Defensa Central claim the Red Devils are ready to double his wages to fend off interest from Los Blancos.

Josel again

The Spaniard is currently on loan at the Bernabeu from Espanyol and despite just 18 starts in all competitions, the 34-year-old has 17 goals and three assists, making him third top scorer this season.

Real could sign him forever for a measly 1.5 million euros, but so far no concrete decision has been made, which would give the 20-time champion of the English league a chance to attack.

“Joselu continues to be of interest to Manchester United where his figure has gained weight in recent months and the club are prepared to crack the market to sign him.

“His two goals in the last semi-final of the European Cup against Bayern Munich convinced most of the Real Madrid hierarchy of the need to keep the team. Joselu is awaiting a decision as Manchester United continue to press for his services.

“There is talk in England of an offer of a two-year contract for the Galician footballer, which would exponentially increase Joselu’s salary. 5 million euros net per year.”

Joselu salary increase

The Spanish international currently earns around 2,500,000 euros per year (capology) and that basically means that the Reds are ready to double his salary if he chooses Old Trafford instead of Madrid.

The player wouldn’t make a fuss if he wasn’t handed a starting position and would want to help in any minute he gets, an ideal signing in many ways.

He also has experience playing in England, although those were less successful performances. With concerns about PSR, INEOS can’t go completely crazy in the market and the former Newcastle and Stoke City player would be a cheap option that would allow them to spend elsewhere in the squad.

But the Spaniard is a big Real fan and would like to stay. The decision is up to Florentino Perez. United will be watching the proceedings with interest.
