Manchester United Women are reportedly inching closer to securing the services of Wolfsburg defender Dominique Janssen on a free transfer.

United are currently undergoing a massive squad overhaul following a campaign that saw them finish a disappointing fifth place and 20 points below champions Chelsea.

In the Women’s Super League, Marc Skinner’s side let in 32 goals in the 22 matches they played.

Already, the club has confirmed the exits of Lucia Garcia who is set to join Mexican side Monterrey, Mary Earps who is on the brink of signing for Paris Saint-Germain and club captain Katie Zelem.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils are one step away from bringing in Elisabeth Terland from Brighton and Hove Albion as a free agent.

According to BBC, United have set their sights on another star whose contract is about to expire.

The newspaper states, “Manchester United are set to sign former Arsenal defender Dominique Janssen on a free transfer.”

“Netherlands international Janssen, 29, spent four seasons with the Gunners before joining Wolfsburg in 2019.”

“Janssen won two league titles with Wolfsburg and announced in May that she would leave the German club when her contract expired this summer.”

The 29-year-old started in the 2020 and 2023 Champions League finals as Wolfsburg suffered defeats against Lyon and Barcelona respectively.

In the 2023/24 season, Janssen made 18 appearances in Frauen Bundesliga and managed five goals and one assist.

She played 25 times across all competitions.

As per Emma Sanders, United are eager to recruit Janssen because of several injuries sustained by key players last season such as Gabby George.
