Manchester United are keen on signing Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, as per reports.

The 23-year-old Canadian star has cemented himself as one of the most exciting full-back talents in Europe. His pace and dribbling ability have made him an indispensable part of Bayern’s squad.

However, Davies is expected to depart Munich at the end of the campaign, as the Bayern board have so far failed to find an agreement with the player to extend his contract, which is due to expire next summer.

Amid this contract stand-off, Real Madrid have been linked most heavily with Davies. Last week, The Peoples Person relayed a report suggesting United are also monitoring the Bayern star, but Los Blancos continue to be “one of the top favourites” in the race for his signature.

Now, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg is claiming that United’s interest in Davies is “becoming more concrete.”

It is understood the Red Devils have been “gathering extensive information” on the full-back for “several days”.

He has featured in 10 games across all competitions this season under Vincent Kompany. The attacking left-back also has an assist to his name in this season’s Champions League.

Further, United have “already made an informal inquiry” with Davies’ camp, who have held no new talks with Bayern concerning his extension.

Davies would be a “desired transfer” for United, who have been dealing with an injury crisis in that area of the pitch since the start of the year.

Luke Shaw has been absent from Ten Hag’s squad since February, while his supposed back-up Tyrell Malacia has been out of action for around 18 months.

The situation has forced the United gaffer to rely on the likes of Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Toby Collyer to cover the position this term.

Accordingly, signing Davies would not only strengthen United’s options at left-back but it would also not significantly impact their transfer budget, owing to his free agent status.
