Manchester United are on the lookout for a new striker this summer, and the team is in desperate need of reinforcements.
Last summer, Man United signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta – a successful signing considering the young Dane’s 16 goals in 43 games in all competitions.
However, after Antony Martial left Old Trafford, Hojlund remained the only natural striker at the club.
In order to support Hojlund so as not to exhaust the youngster, United appear to be eyeing another up-and-coming star in the upcoming transfer window.
ManchesterWorld have reported that the club have a long-term interest in Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.
Ferguson made quite the splash when he was promoted to Brighton’s first team in 2022-23, scoring 16 goals in 34 appearances for the club, including three goals in just four FA Cup games. (Transfermarkt)
However, we can’t help but acknowledge the risk that comes with signing the 19-year-old, given the big drop in form he suffered last season.
Having recently suffered an ankle injury, Ferguson’s season has been one to forget, with the teenager scoring just six goals in 27 Premier League appearances.
Despite his decline in performance, Ferguson’s age and potential seem to have kept United interested in him. It also happens to fit the profile of INEOS’ new transfer strategy for the club.
As mentioned in The Peoples Person, INEOS will no longer adhere to manager Erik ten Haag’s singular power when it comes to market signings.
Instead, the club will shift its transfer strategy to British players with proven Premier League experience, which Ferguson possesses.
However, the club’s purchase of Ferguson will largely depend on his price. With Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly unwilling to allow United to continue splashing large sums of money on expensive signings, Ferguson’s price tag will no doubt have a major impact on the likelihood of him building a future at Old Trafford.
