Manchester United’s search for a new left-back just got more challenging, with Brighton and Hove Albion edging closer to signing their target Ferdi Kadıoğlu.

The news about Luke Shaw’s latest injury setback, which rules him out until at least the September international break, has sent alarm bells ringing through the United fanbase.

However, the club’s hierarchy have reportedly been in the transfer market for a new left-back since mid-July, owing to both Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s constant struggle with injuries.

The Red Devils have been linked with many left-backs, including Kadıoğlu. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United even held talks with the player’s representatives to understand his contractual demands before approaching Fenerbahçe.

The Fenerbahçe star made headlines this summer with his impressive showings for Turkiye at the Euros.

The versatile full-back, who is capable of both bombing forward and inverting into midfield, has the skill-set to seamlessly slot into Erik ten Hag’s setup.

However, United will have to accelerate their efforts if they are seriously interested in Kadıoğlu as Brighton have made significant progress in their pursuit.

According to Sabah (via Sport Witness), the 24-year-old has reached an agreement over personal terms with Brighton.

Kadıoğlu did not feature for Jose Mourinho’s side in last night’s Champions League qualifier defeat through injury. However, the outlet suggests he was not involved because he has agreed to join the Premier League side.

The Seagulls have reportedly already submitted a €35 million offer, and are now waiting for Fenerbahçe’s decision, which is expected to be revealed tomorrow. It is added that it will be difficult for the Turkish giants to turn down the offer.

United could certainly make things difficult for Brighton, but as things stand, there are no reports suggesting an imminent bid from the Old Trafford outfit, who only recently committed to splashing north of £50m on strengthening their backline by securing the services of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Interestingly, Mazraoui, who primarily plays as a right back, is capable of contributing positively from the opposite flank.
