Manchester United target Gleison Bremer has hinted in a recent interview that his future may lie away from Juventus.

In the spring, the Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian defender and there was much discussion on whether United would or could activate his touted release clause of €60 million.

As the season drew to an end though, it became clear that United had different targets in mind as a bid for Jarrad Branthwaite was rejected by Everton and personal terms agreed.

The club is also currently making good progress in a deal to sign Matthijs de Ligt and at the moment, this seems like the most nailed-on transfer United will make this summer.

It was reported that Bremer was in fact no longer a target for the club due to Juventus’ unwillingness to sell and interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio.

In spite of this, recent comments from Bremer in an interview with AS (via La Gazzetta dello Sport) suggest that the matter may not be in fact so settled.

The 27 year old claimed “I’m very focused on the Copa America and I’ll leave the matter to my agents. Of course, I’ve read some things and I’m happy knowing that clubs with so much history follow me, but the truth is that I will talk about it with my agents after the Copa America.”

He did lavish praise on incoming Juventus boss Thiago Motta by claiming, “he will be well received by the whole locker room. He is a professional who has done an excellent job and I think he was an excellent choice for the club.”

Nonetheless, his original comments will surely pique the interest of clubs “with history” like United.

It has been widely reported that Erik ten Hag’s side may look into signing two centre backs, especially if the likes of Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof leave the club.

For this reason, the pursuit of De Ligt has not killed United’s interest in Branthwaite and they could conceivably go back in for the likes of Bremer.

A “physically strong centre back” with “excellent aerial ability”, Bremer would certainly be a more than adequate replacement for Maguire should he finally depart the club this summer.
