Manchester United target Joao Neves is reportedly expected to join Paris Saint-Germain next week.

The Red Devils have prioritised signing a midfielder and have been heavily linked with a move for Manuel Ugarte.

Martin Zubimendi and Youssouf Fofana have also been touted as possible targets but before the trio, all eyes were on Benfica ace Joao Neves, who was scouted extensively over the course of last season.

Nonetheless, a move for the Portuguese teenager looks completely dead as reports in Portugal state that he is expected to move to the French capital as early as next week.

Record report that “negotiations between Benfica and PSG to agree on João Neves’ transfer are approaching their end and the aim is for the player to travel to Paris at the beginning of next week.”

“Tomorrow, the clubs will meet again and it is expected that the final terms of the deal will be defined and the midfielder will have the green light to head to the French champions”.

The 19-year-old has already started training with Benfica after returning from holiday after Portugal were knocked out of Euro 2024 at the quarter-final stage by France.

On the one hand, Neves’ move to France will be a blow for United as they have admired the player for a very long time and reportedly had a bid of €70 million turned down for the player at the start of July and as a result withdrew from the race for the talented teenager.

On the other hand however, a deal for Neves might eventually convince Paris Saint-Germain to lower their demands for Ugarte.

United already have the green light from the player and they have agreed personal terms with him.

It has already been reported that United are confident that PSG will reduce their price tag as the window wears on and it has been relayed here that Neves and Ugarte both have the same agent, Jorge Mendes, and this could benefit United’s pursuit of the Uruguayan.

Therefore, fans of the club will be following the Neves deal closely, as it may prove to be the final domino that leads to United agreeing a reduced price with Paris Saint-Germain for Ugarte.
