Manchester United’s summer transfers seem to have started on an incredible note.

It’s been a week since Man United ended the season by lifting the FA Cup trophy, but INEOS are still tight-lipped about their decision on the long-term future of manager Erik ten Hag. It appears that their end-of-season review is still ongoing.

This uncertainty has raised many questions about how they intend to go into the upcoming summer transfer window. Waiting too long to make a decision on Ten Hague could also leave them behind their rivals in the transfer market.

Chelsea have left other suitors, including Newcastle, in the race to sign Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer, according to a report in The Guardian.

Recently, The Peoples Person carried a report claiming that United’s new technical director Jason Wilcox is interested in reuniting with the former Manchester City centre-back.

However, now Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea are close to signing Adarabioyo, who is leaving Fulham this summer after his contract expires.

Interestingly, the first potential signing of the Enzo Maresca era could also help United get their hands on another defensive target sooner rather than later.

Chelsea have found themselves in dire financial straits and could be forced to sell domestic players to ensure they are on the right side of profitability and sustainability regulations.

The report added that Adarabioyo’s impending arrival could “accelerate the departure” of academic talent Trevoh Chalobah.

The 24-year-old central defender, who primarily thrives while defending the channels, has appeared on United’s radar. Chalobah is reportedly valued at £25 million.

Considering his age and profile, the Chelsea star could prove to be a good signing for United, who are looking to bolster their centre-back options following the departure of Raphael Varane.

That said, United’s financial situation is not much better than Chelsea’s, with the Standard claiming that the Red Devils may not be willing to spend even £25m on the player.
