Manchester United are reportedly contemplating a swoop for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
United have been very busy so far this summer, having already secured the signings of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and Leny Yorro from Lille.
After reinforcing the attacking and defensive departments, the next item on the agenda appears to be bolstering Erik ten Hag’s options in the middle of the park.
At the moment, United appear to be focused on getting a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte over the line.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils and PSG are close to striking an agreement for the transfer of Ugarte.
Other options mentioned to be on United’s radar include Dani Olmo (RB Leipzig) and Joao Neves (Benfica). A return to Old Trafford for Sofyan Amrabat has yet to be ruled out but at this stage, it seems that the club’s primary aim is to bring in alternatives to the Moroccan.
According to The Manchester Evening News, United are also “looking at” Zubimendi.
This is not the first time Zubimendi has been linked to Erik ten Hag’s side. In January it was stated that United had a “high interest” in the Sociedad star.
On Friday, The Telegraph also divulged details of United’s interest in Zubimendi.
James Ducker wrote, “They are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain for the Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who shares the same agent as Yoro – Jorge Mendes. As with the centre-half position where United held concurrent talks over Yoro, Branthwaite and De Ligt, the club are thought to have several plates spinning at once in terms of midfielders.”
“Talks over Ugarte appear the most advanced at this stage but there is some interest in the Real Sociedad defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who has just won the Euros with Spain, among others.”
Zubimendi came on at half-time for Rodri in the Euro 2024 final as Spain beat England to win the tournament.
Arsenal also want to add the 25-year-old to their ranks and he has been previously described as an “obsession” of Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
