A Manchester United XI pre-season friendly has been announced, with an encounter against Chester scheduled for Wednesday 24th July.

The match will serve as a warm up for United’s u21s and u18s as a mixed group is likely to be seen.

It is the second year in a row that United will take on the local opponents in pre-season preparations with United running out 0-4 runners last time out.

Goals came on that occasion from Shola Shoretire, Charlie McNeill (2) and Noam Emeran, two of whom have already left the club since then, with Shoretire also nearing the exit.

Tickets are priced at £12 for adults, with concessions available for £10. Fans aged 18-21 will pay £5, 12-17 year-olds are to be charged £3 and under-12s are free if they attend with a paying adult with tickets going on sale now.

While likely to be overseen by u21s manager Travis Binnion, his available selection will heavily rely on Erik ten Hag’s decisions on who to include on the first team tour.

With many of the first team stars taking part in international tournaments over the summer, they will be returning late to pre-season, opening up spots for youngsters to fill the gap including five academy stars we think could make an impression.

This means Binnion’s side will likely skew to the younger side, giving fans a chance to see some new stars for the first time.

This includes new signings such as James Overy or a closer look at the new first year scholars who may step up, such as Bendito Mantato or Amir Ibragimov.

It will provide a good experience ahead of this season’s EFL Trophy campaign to take on senior opposition and familiarise themselves with the physical step up required for first team football.

United have been drawn with Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers and Huddersfield Town in the group stage of the EFL Trophy.

The youngsters’ pre-season programme is expected to have more matches announced in due course.
