Former Manchester United star Mason Greenwood’s reboot in Ligue 1 has got off to a flying start.

Greenwood was sold to Olympique Marseille for a mere €25 million as public opinion over an alleged rape and assault against his partner meant it was impossible for him to play for United again, despite no conviction having ensued.

Greenwood had a successful loan spell at Getafe in Spain last season before completing the deal to join the southern French side on a permanent transfer.

With five goals in three games, it is fair to say the academy graduate has hit the ground running at his new club.

Playing off the right wing, Greenwood scored two in his Ligue 1 debut against Stade Brestois, one against Stade Reims and yesterday, two against Toulouse.

The first goals was a superb left-footed strike from a tight angle that he took from the inside left position.

The second was not the crispest of shots but managed to sneak in the near post under the Toulouse keeper’s outstretched hand.

The Bradford-born man is clearly enjoying life in Marseille and was a central feature in the post-match celebrations.

Still only 22 years of age, Greenwood’s value could skyrocket if he continues his fine form, which could still be to United’s advantage.

Part-owners Ineos are believed to have negotiated a 50% sell-on clause in the player’s contract.

There is also a buy-back clause, although it is considered highly unlikely that United will ever exercise it.
