Matthijs de Ligt has bid Bayern Munich fans farewell via a social media post, with his move to Manchester United on the brink of being officially announced.
After weeks of pursuing De Ligt with little success, David Ornstein broke the news over the weekend that United finally agreed a deal with Bayern for the Dutch defender’s transfer.
It was stated that United will fork out €45million, plus €5m in add-ons for De Ligt.
On Monday morning, the 25-year-old was spotted by cameras on his way to the airport to fly out to Manchester for his medical.
It’s understood that De Ligt and Bayern teammate Noussair Mazraoui – who is also about to officially join United – passed their medicals.
De Ligt has now all but confirmed his imminent switch to Old Trafford via a video posted on Instagram, in which he thanked the Bayern faithful for their support during his time at the Allianz Arena.
The centre-back also wrote, “I want to thank each and everyone of you for all your love and support. I have spent two amazing years playing for this beautiful club.”
“It has been a true honour to have played for a club like Bayern Munich.”
“We have achieved unforgettable moments together. Winning the title as well as several amazing CL-nights. These memories will stay with me forever.”
“This is why leaving this club feels bittersweet. I will always remember the love and support I have received from the players, the staff members and from the fans. The recent petition signed by so many of you has touched me deeply.”
He added, “Thank you all for the two amazing years. I wish FC Bayern good luck winning many more titels, like Bayern has always done. Mia San Mia.”
Last season, De Ligt made 22 Bundesliga appearances. In that time, he helped Bayern keep seven clean sheets while scoring two goals in the process.
