NEW YORK: Inter Miami’s Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi will not play in the MLS competition scheduled for Wednesday due to injuries, according to the league and Inter Miami. A new MLS schedule dedicated to the game against the Mexican Football All Stars in Columbus, Ohio did not include Messi and Suarez for the event.
Lionel Messi is still recovering from a knock that saw him out of two MLS games last week due to a right ankle injury sustained during the Copa America final match against Colombia. While Luis Suarez, who just rejoined the side following more than 40 days of national team duty, will not play in the All-Star game due to knee pain, the team stated.
It was supposed to be Messi’s debut MLS All-Star game since he joined Inter Miami in July 2023. Miami also pointed out that Suarez and Messi are listed as doubtful for the Saturday home match against Mexico’s Puebla to start their Leagues Cup title defence. Whether or not they will be available for the game will depend on their recovery process on that day, the team said.
