CLEVELAND (WJW) – Tournament time is here! The NCAA Women’s Final Four tips off Friday night. People from all over the country will be tuned in to see which two teams will advance to Sunday’s championship game.
First up, NC State is taking on South Carolina at 7 p.m. UCONN and Iowa will then hit the court at 9:30 p.m. The two winners will face off on Sunday.
This tournament has been years in the making for Cleveland. Not only is our the buzzing about women’s basketball, but the entire country is. Cleveland was awarded the hosting of this tournament back in 2018.
“Women’s sports, college basketball, was on a different path at that time,” said Monica Gustin, executive director of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Final Four. “Now, we are booming,”
Many people are waiting to see Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark, the best college basketball athlete now, and a huge reason why there is so much interest in women’s basketball right now. Clark became the all-time leading scorer in the NCAA last month. She won AP Player of the year Thursday, adding on to her accomplishments.
But it’s not just Clark bringing in the fans. The talent runs deep.
“There are a lot of known names but also a lot of freshman still playing in the tournament in this Final Four,” said Gustin. “The talent and the game is so strong right now it’s an incredible product.”
