Manchester United have officially confirmed the appointment of Andreas Georgson as a first-team coach.
Earlier on Friday, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were set to hire Georgson, who was serving as manager of Lillestrom.
It was stated that United would fork out £280,000 to pry Georgson from Lillestrom after just eight months in charge.
In a club statement, United relayed, “Andreas Georgson has joined Manchester United as first-team coach.”
“The 42-year-old is the latest addition to Erik ten Hag’s staff this summer, and arrives from Norwegian side Lillestrom, where he has been head coach since January of this year.”
“Georgson earlier had a stint as caretaker boss of Malmo, in his native Sweden, and has extensive coaching experience in England, having worked at Brentford, Arsenal and Southampton.”
Earlier this month, United announced the arrival of Dutch duo Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake as the replacements for Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy.
Van der Gaag and McCarthy arrived with Ten Hag at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 but after two seasons in the dugout, both have since left the club.
It’s believed that the pair were eager to forge their own paths as managers.
United also added goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar to the backroom staff to succeed Richard Hartis, whose 20-year association with the Red Devils came to an end.
Van Nistelrooy, Hake and Ten Rouwelaar travelled with the team for their pre-season tour in the United States.
They’ve so far overseen United’s pre-season matches against Rosenborg and Rangers.
It remains to be seen whether Georgson will jet to Los Angeles to link up with Ten Hag and his coaches, or he will report to Carrington and join Steve McClaren. McClaren remained home to work with the United players who will return to training too late to join the US tour.
