Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been criticized by football finance expert Kieran Maguire for his treatment of club staff.

Since Ratcliffe completed his partial 27.7% investment in United, all attention has been focused on identifying areas of improvement in a bid to return the 20-time English champions to the pinnacle of English and European football.

One of the issues the INEOS billionaire wants to address is United’s operating costs, which he has taken radical steps to reduce. It has been repeatedly said that Ratcliffe believes that the Red Devils’ workforce is over-bloated compared to other Premier League clubs and that cuts are urgently needed.

The British businessman recently offered United staff an early payment of their annual bonus if they resigned by Wednesday (5 June).

Employees at the club were told by email last Tuesday that anyone who does not want to comply with the lifting of the work-from-home policy can quit and claim their bonus, which in some cases is worth thousands of pounds.

However, according to Maguire speaking to Football Insider, Ratcliffe’s latest move is simply an “evil” approach if it means executives like the Glazers are still living lavishly at United’s expense.

Maguire said of Ratcliffe’s decision to ask United staff to resign: “It seemed quite spiteful and petty the way it was worded.”

“Does voluntary resignation mean that if they don’t agree to changes in working practices, they won’t get redundancy?”

“If Jim Ratcliffe thinks Manchester United’s problems are caused by Sandra taking her kids to school twice a week and working from home instead of commuting to the office, then fine, but I highly doubt they will win the Premier League next season on the back of that. ”

“There is no evidence that they will reduce the way executives are treated.”

“We saw the Glazer family at Wembley on Saturday and I imagine the club paid for that with a private jet they funded for them.”

Maguire added: “If that’s considered OK, then targeting the Mancunian HQ seems simple and pathetic. The way it was handled looks like someone who has completely lost his roots in Manchester.”

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person reports that despite the fact that INEOS’s actions have not gone down too well with club staff who have been left frustrated, there is some acceptance that standards have bottomed out over the years and huge changes were needed to correct them. the situation.
