The Philadelphia Phillies returned infielder Edmundo Sosa from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and activated him from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Sosa was in the Phillies’ lineup Tuesday night at third base and batting eighth against the host Milwaukee Brewers in a battle of National League division leaders.

Sosa, 28, had been sidelined since Sept. 6 because of back spasms. In 83 games this season, he has batted .264 with seven home runs, four triples and 30 RBIs. His triple and RBI totals are tied for his career highs.

In 389 career games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2018-19, 2021-22) and Phillies (2022-24), Sosa is a career .255 hitter with 25 home runs and 108 RBIs. He has played every position except pitcher, catcher, first base and right field in his MLB career, focusing on shortstop, third base and second base this season.

The Phillies optioned infielder Buddy Kennedy to Triple-A in a corresponding 28-man roster move. Kennedy, 25, played in seven games for Philadelphia this month after being selected off waivers from the Detroit Tigers and batted 2-for-10 with two RBIs for the Phillies.
