Special Olympics and SNF first partnered in 2018 to expand inclusive sports in schools and communities around the world. Play Unified: Learn Unified The project expanded in scope and impact. Special Olympics Unified Schools And Unified Sports In 21 countries and regions around the world, 400,000 young men and women with and without intellectual disabilities participate in more than 1,500 schools.
In 2021, Special Olympics and the National Sports Foundation elevated their global partnership by launching Global Campaign for InclusionBased on the inherent right of people with intellectual disabilities to experience self-respect and the dignity that every person deserves, the Global Campaign for Inclusion is an ambitious vision of acceptance, empowerment and inclusion.
Funded by SNF, Global Leadership Alliance for Inclusion It was launched in Special Olympics World Games in BerlinThis alliance aims to strengthen education and social care systems, and will improve the exchange of information and best practices between countries and deepen their commitment to inclusion.
Through this partnership, supported by Panos and Shawn, Special Olympics is helping countries meet their obligations to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals to provide quality education and reduce disparities. Special Olympics and its partners will provide national governments with data and technical assistance to help them better serve learners with intellectual disabilities and design public-private partnerships to scale initiatives that support inclusive classrooms, schools and communities.
