Arsenal have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Chelsea star Raheem Sterling ahead of Manchester United, with just hours left until the close of the transfer window.

Sterling is looking for a new club after Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca made it crystal clear that the winger is not in his plans.

United have emerged as a possible destination for Sterling and it has been mentioned that sporting director Dan Ashworth is “enthusiastic” about the possibility of the England international becoming the latest addition to Erik ten Hag’s ranks.

A stunning swap deal which would see Sterling arrive at Old Trafford and Jadon Sancho head the other way has been suggested. However, there are difficulties that must first be resolved before such a transaction happens.

Sterling wants clarity over his contractual situation with the Blues and only once that is sorted out will he give his go-ahead for a move to take place.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are prepared to present the 82-cap international with a contract offer.

Miguel Delaney of The Independent has given an update on the situation and indicated that Arsenal have emerged as suitors for Sterling, potentially signing the player ahead of United.

Sterling is not the only winger that has been offered to Arsenal. Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman is another one now firmly on their radar.

“Arsenal are weighing up moves for Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling or Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman having been approached about both in the final two days of the transfer window.”

“Arteta does have a strong relationship with Sterling from their time together at Manchester City, when the Basque was assistant to Pep Guardiola.”

“Although there have been questions over whether the 29-year-old can be as explosive as he used to be, Arteta likes his personality and feels he can be a good influence on the squad, especially with his winning record. Sterling also has an understanding of Arsenal’s tactical approach, given its similarity to City’s.”

Like United, it’s understood that Arsenal are not willing to break their wage structure to secure Sterling’s services.

Delaney brands United’s chances of signing Sterling as a “long shot,” and Arsenal’s involvement is unlikely to improve the Red Devils’ prospects.
