The AVSC raised millions of dollars, which the Christmas Records Trust distributed to national Special Olympics programs in need, allowing them to participate in various levels of sports that they could not otherwise afford at the time.

His contribution to many Special Olympics World Games will always be remembered and cherished. In 2003, Jones participated in the inaugural Athletes’ Parade. He composed the theme songs for 2007 World Games in Shanghai and World Games 2019 in Abu Dhabi .

Over the years, Jones became close to the Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver – A bond that began in 1999 when they both earned doctoral degrees from the University of Miami.
