Manchester United target Ronald Araujo will soon meet with FC Barcelona to iron out his future.
United endured a challenging season defensively as they missed chance after chance and Andre Onana’s goal was often peppered with chances. The Cameroonian somehow finished fifth in the race for the Golden Gloves, but kept just nine clean sheets in 38 matches.
There were many turnovers as United suffered huge defensive injuries and were rarely able to play together in the same partnership. Raphael Varane has already announced that he is leaving the club and there is a high chance that Jonny Evans will also leave as a free agent.
Therefore, center back is a position that the Red Devils will prioritize this summer, and it has even been reported that the club could pursue two defenders to strengthen their squad.
Jarrad Branthwaite and Jean-Clair Todibo are just two of a host of centre-back options heavily linked with the Old Trafford outfit, but another long-term target whose name just won’t go away is Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo.
The 25-year-old is reported to be one of the players in a potential swoop at the Camp Nou as they desperately need ways to generate funds for their summer activities.
Premier League rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa are said to be joining United in the race for the centre-back.
And Araujo has now revealed what the next steps will be regarding his future at the club.
Speaking to Uruguayan media Punto Penal (via Fichajes) he said: “I’m very good. I’m calm. I have a contract until 2026. Now my representatives will meet with the club.”
He then claimed that he is not currently thinking about his future at Barcelona and is thinking about Uruguay’s upcoming COPA America campaign.
“I am thinking about the national team. I play for a club where if you don’t win, it’s a bad season. By not winning titles, it is considered a season that was not good.”
By all accounts, the defender is considered happy at the club, but there is a growing school of thought that Barcelona’s management are split on the idea of selling him and that the defender is seen as a huge potential source of income due to his high price tag and coming through the club’s famous youth system.
