Ex-Premier League manager Sam Allardyce has warned Manchester United that they’d be making a huge mistake by selling Scott McTominay this summer.

McTominay is believed to be one of the players United are open to parting ways with in a bid to raise money to bankroll incoming.

Offloading McTominay for a fee would represent pure profit for the Red Devils as he’s an academy graduate.

The Scotland international hasn’t been short of suitors, after a superb 2023/24 season that saw him plunder a career-high 10 goals across all competitions.

He has been linked to Galatasaray and Tottenham Hotspur but the strongest overtures for him have originated from Marco Silva’s Fulham.

The Cottagers saw around two offers rejected for the midfielder, with the latest one thought to be worth around £20million.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Fulham are not expected to return with another bid, as United hold out for a sum in the region of £25m-£30m.

Sam Allardyce spoke on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast (via Metro) and gave his verdict on United’s prospects heading into the 2024/25 campaign as well as McTominay’s transfer situation.

Allardyce said, “Now that Erik ten Hag is settled it’s going to be interesting to see whether he’s able to get Man United where they need to go.”

“It depends on whether the players are onside with him or not. I had a sneaky suspicion at the back end of last season that he lost a few players.”

“I think that is a key element in terms of trust between the manager, players and backroom staff, is an absolute must if you’re going to finish in any position in the Premier League that you surprise people with.”

“Man United are going to massively surprise people if they finish first or second but you need to be all on board and get unity, it looks like they lost that.”

Allardyce added, “Letting Scott McTominay go would be a big disaster for Man United, he’s become a goalscorer for Scotland and for United.”

McTominay started United’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City on the bench. He came on as a substitute and converted his penalty in the ensuing shootout.
