Apart from first team arrivals and departures, Manchester United are also focussed on improving the academy which includes bringing in young talent while also making sure to retain the ones with a bright future.

Recently, Toby Collyer signed a long-term deal with manager Erik ten Hag present at the scene. The midfielder is tipped to make his first team breakthrough this season.

Ethan Ennis was another who signed a new deal. The former Liverpool youngster played in both pre-season games thus far and is likely to head to the US along with the rest of the big-name stars.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Sam Mather becomes the latest United academy star to sign a new long-term deal. He is set to sign a three year deal with the club having the option of adding another year.

Mather signs new deal

“Excl: Manchester United winger Samuel Mather has agreed to sign new long-term contract with the club.

“Understand the agreement will be valid until June 2027, three year deal with an option for further season,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The 19-year-old was a second-half substitute against Rangers last weekend and he will be hoping that Ten Hag takes him along for the club’s upcoming pre-season tour.

Mather is a versatile attacker, capable of playing on either wing, up front as a centre-forward as well as the No 10 behind the striker.

Will be hoping to catch EtH’s eye

Versatility is a trait highly valued by Ten Hag and the Salford-born star will be hoping to catch the manager’s eye in training.

The England U19 international scored four goals in a single game last term against Norwich reserves in the Premier League 2 while also netting one more in PL 2 and one in the PL 2 playoffs against Arsenal.

The former FA Youth Cup champion was sent to Rochdale on a flexi-loan during the second-half of the season to help him gain experience from playing games in a senior team environment while also benefiting from staying and training at Carrington.

He netted twice in six starts in the National League and will be hoping to earn another loan move, this time to a club higher in the pyramid in the upcoming season.
