SANDY RYAN could be set for a huge 12 months if she can successfully defend her world title on September 27.
The WBO Welterweight champion defends her belt against Mikaela Mayer at Madison Square Garden Theatre in New York and knows a win could lead to unification fights against UK rivals Lauren Price (WBA champion) and Natasha Jonas (IBF champion).
Mayer has made no secret of her feelings towards Ryan in the build-up (you can watch the champion’s response in the video below), but beyond her third defence, the Derby native also has an eye on a future clash against a former undisputed world champion.
“You got Chantelle Cameron. Everyone wants to see that fight with me and her,” Ryan told Boxing News.
“I know she doesn’t want to fight me but it’s business and a lot of people want to see that. Two British girls, two top-level fighters, that’s a possible fight in the future. There’s some big fights out there after this.”
Ryan is confident that a fight between herself and the former Queen of the super-lightweight division can happen should Cameron make the jump north to 147 lbs.
“People are already talking about it,” Ryan said.
“It’s business at the end of the day. It just makes sense for that fight to happen in the future.”
