Sofyan Amrabat has insisted that he will always give 100% for Manchester United and stressed that the club’s fans have not seen him at his best because of the occasional game.

The Moroccan arrived to great fanfare on deadline day last summer but failed to live up to expectations.

He has barely played in the second half of the season, mostly coming off the bench since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in February.

However, with Casemiro having to fill in at centre-back, he was given the opportunity to play in midfield against both Arsenal and Newcastle and impressed when given the chance with his tireless energy.

He played 87 minutes against the Gunners at the weekend and the whole match last night. One of the highlights of the game and probably Amrabat’s season was when he raced alone against three Newcastle forwards and miraculously blocked Alexander Isak’s goal-bound shot.

The intervention came at a crucial moment as the Magpies had just equalized and at that moment would have made it 2-1 in the match.

Speaking to MUTV after the game about the fight to get back into the team, Amrabat said: “It wasn’t easy, of course, because everyone wants to play.”

“I had to be patient, but I was always ready for it. when they need me, where they need me, even if it was one minute or 10 minutes. I always do my best, in training I try to help the team.”

Amrabat made it clear he regretted his time at United saying: “I think there’s only one thing you can do; work hard and wait for the opportunity. (Maybe it’s a little late, the end of the season, but I’m happy that the chance came and that we won today.”

“It’s also nice to show myself, but it’s still not Sofyan Amrabat at the top, how can I play. This is now my second game in four, five months where I’ve played 90 minutes, so I’m not 100 percent normal.”

“But I’m very happy to show that I played well, and the team played well, and we wanted to win this game.”

It appears to be too little too late for the Morocco star, but it seems the decision not to keep the player out of the loan deal was made a long time ago.

However, if he can play a key role in guaranteeing some sort of European football next season and win the FA Cup, he might be able to look back on his time in Manchester in some kind of positive light.
