Burnley and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement in principle for manager Vincent Kompany, a source has told ESPN.

Kompany, 38, is set to sign a three-year contract at the Allianz Arena as a replacement for Thomas Tuchel.

Bayern is scheduled to pay Burnley about 10 million pounds ($12.7 million) in compensation. The framework of the deal was agreed upon after a week of talks between the two clubs.

Kompany, who signed a contract extension with Turf Moor in May 2023, has already verbally accepted an offer from the Bundesliga side. This will be the third managerial appointment for the former Manchester City defender after spells at Anderlecht and Burnley.

He won promotion to the Premier League in his first season at Turf Moor, but finished the season in 19th place, with Burnley doomed to an immediate return to the Championship.

Bayern turned to Kompany after a series of rejections during their search for Tuchel’s replacement. Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick all turned down the chance to take charge. Negotiations with Tuchel to stay also collapsed.

Bayern suffered a disappointing season, finishing outside the top two in Germany for the first time since 2011. They reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, but were eliminated in two matches by Real Madrid.
