Indiana quarterback Curtis Rourke is not expected to play next week against Washington after injuring his thumb Saturday against Nebraska, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Sunday.

Rourke will return to the Hoosiers this season, but the timetable is not yet clear, sources said.

He missed the second half of the No. 16 Hoosiers’ 56-7 win over Nebraska after injuring his right thumb while hitting a pass attempt in the second quarter. He stayed in the game and went 17-of-21 for 189 yards with a touchdown and an interception to lead the Hoosiers to a 28-7 halftime lead but was sidelined in street clothes for the second half, prompting Indiana coach Curt Cignetti to call a precautionary measure.

Backup Teven Jackson, who started five games for Indiana in 2023, replaced Rauer in the second half and threw for 91 yards and two touchdowns on 7-of-8 passing while leading four touchdown drives.

Rourke, a sixth-year senior transfer from Ohio, emerged as a Heisman Trophy contender while guiding the Hoosiers to their first 7-0 start since 1967.
