LSU linebacker John Emery Jr. suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during practice on Tuesday and is expected to miss the rest of the season, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Emery, the team’s starting linebacker, tore his right anterior cruciate ligament during his team’s win over the Florida Gators on Nov. 11. Emery played in just seven games last season. He had 1,123 yards and 16 touchdowns in six seasons with the Tigers.

Emery, a senior at the University of Saint Rose in Louisiana, ran for 61 yards on 10 attempts during a 27-20 loss to USC in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Nola.com was the first to report details of Emery’s injury.

In Emery’s absence, the Tigers will rely heavily on sophomore Caleb Jackson and fourth-year senior Josh Williams, who combined for 51 yards on 15 carries against the Trojans. Freshman Caden Durham is also available.

Sophomore player Trey Holley has been suspended from playing with the team after being arrested in connection with a Feb. 9 shooting in Farmerville, Louisiana, that left two people with gunshot wounds.

A grand jury indicted Holly on one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon or dangerous instrument, which dismissed the attempted murder charge.

The 18th-ranked Tigers host FCS Nicholls on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, SECNetwork+).
