Sir Alex Ferguson may be 82 and retired eleven years ago, but his influence is still felt throughout the sporting world.

The legendary former manager is still regularly seen attending Manchester United matches and talking to key club stalwarts Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford.

He was recently seen checking his watch on TV cameras during the FA Cup final, as he did while walking along the touchline, and also warmed the hearts of everyone associated with the club when he was caught singing along to “Glory Glory Man United” as the team celebrated an incredible win over Manchester City at Wembley.

His influence is clearly still high at the club at board level as he was seen leaving a restaurant this weekend with Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freeman, who he reportedly met to gauge the availability of some of the Eagles’ most wanted players, including INEOS favourite, Michael Olise.

The legendary manager won an incredible 38 major trophies with the Red Devils, and his aura even manages to connect with today’s youngsters.

In a recent interview, Spanish tennis player and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz claimed he follows a certain mantra that came from the United manager.

The world number three is currently competing at the French Open, having secured a safe passage to the quarterfinals where he will be drawn with Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Speaking to Relevo, the 21-year-old revealed that he was inspired by Sir Alex’s quote: “Attack makes you win. Defense makes you win titles”.

The exciting tennis player, who has already won two Grand Slam titles, says he could learn something from Ferguson’s words.

He claimed that despite the fact that his “core is to try to do different things, to try to impress people”, he should also try to be a little more “boring, in quotes”, to raise his game.

Ferguson was known for his risky football, so at first glance it might be surprising that someone took this quote from a major flaw to live by.

However, the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Denis Irwin, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jaap Stam and Patrice Evra, to name but a few, were certainly the backbone of these glorious years. under Sir Alex.
