In a significant gesture towards inclusion, the captains of the 16 teams at the Copa America, which is being held in the United States, will wear captain’s armbands with the message “Choose to include.”
CONMEBOL President Alejandro Domínguez called on the team captains to wear the bracelet, which symbolizes their commitment to inclusion and diversity. According to the invitation, “By wearing the captain’s armband, you are making a decision of great faith, choosing to join and contribute to a world where everyone has the opportunity to play and enjoy football, live a full life and be valued members of society.”
Notable players who have accepted the invitation include Lionel Messi of Argentina and Alphonso Davies of Canada, who showed their support during the opening match.
