Gervonta Davis fired back at one of his fans on social media over their criticism of his next fight against Lamont Roach Jr. on December 14th on PBC on Prime Video PPV in Houston, Texas.
The fan merely told Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) that he wasn’t going to watch his fight against Roach and that he wished he wouldn’t fight at all rather than this guy.
Instead of being understanding and saying, ‘I’ll try better to give you guys the fights you want,’ Tank cursed the fan and then told him to return to what he was doing.
The underlying message from WBA lightweight champion Tank Davis is that he doesn’t care what fans think of him. Tank is giving the fan the back of his hand, bashing him for speaking up, and wanting more from him than he’s willing to give.
Tank is like a character from the Oliver Twist movie, where a young boy at an orphanage asks for more food: ‘Please, sir, can I have some more?’ ‘More? Get him,” says the person in charge of the orphanage. The boy then dashes off.
He will continue to fight whoever he pleases, and he won’t give the fans the matches they want to see. In other words, Davis will continue selecting guys that he knows he can beat so he can prolong his time at the top.
“Not watching this fight with Lamont Roach. I would rather you not fight at all,” said Leejrestates on X.
“With that being said, now shut f*** up. Get back to what you were doing,” said Gervonta Davis on X, responding to fan criticism of his fight against Lamont Roach.
What a shame to see a fighter like Tank talking this way to one of his fans. Fans haven’t followed the Baltimore native Davis’ career long enough to know what he’s all about, because he’s always fought guys that were sure-thing wins for him.
When he did step up, he ensured that the odds were in his favor with rehydration clauses against Ryan Garcia and Mario Barrios. Those are the two best guys Tank has fought during his career that weren’t undersized or old.
Tank Davis could have fought Vasily Lomachenko six years ago but chose not to. Only now that Lomachenko is 36 and showing signs of age does Tank want to fight him.
