The following is an excerpt from a World Triathlon article about The first ever World Triathlon Championships for the mixed relay The finals of the Torremolinos Andalusian Championship are scheduled to be held in Torremolinos, Spain, next October.

After two years as an open race, and Team Australia winning gold at Abu Dhabi 2022 and Team USA at Pontevedra 2023, the first World Para Triathlon Mixed Relay Championships will be held as part of the World Triathlon Championships Finals in Torremolinos-Andalusia. Next October.

The World Triathlon Executive Board also agreed to give recognition to athletes with an intellectual disability who have already qualified in age group events with the full support of the Intellectual Disability Working Group who have been seeking opportunities for these athletes alongside World Triathlon or such entities as Virtus and Special Olympics over the course of the two years The last two. The 2024 Multi-Sport Triathlon World Championships in Townsville will award a separate set of medals to athletes with an intellectual disability – even if that impairment is not currently considered within the Para triathlon classification system but is a disability recognized by the IPC.

All athletes wishing to compete at the World Multi-Sport Championships in Townsville must meet their National Federation qualification criteria and follow the standard registration process. Athletes must be eligible for their national federation to compete in any of the Multi-Sport World Championships in Townsville, and go through the regular registration process.
