The details of the unique contract which has convinced Leny Yoro to choose Manchester over Madrid have emerged as the 18-year-old defender flies to England to have a medical at Old Trafford.

As relayed by The Peoples Person here, Yoro is currently travelling to “finalise personal terms” on a £52 million transfer from Ligue 1 side Lille.

The French club are extremely keen to do business with United as their academy graduate only has one year remaining on his deal. He will be able to talk to clubs about leaving on a free from January, with Real Madrid at the front of the queue for the precociously talented youngster.

Yoro has signalled his preference to join the Spanish champions this summer but Madrid are unwilling to pay the fee Lille are demanding.

United, sensing an opportunity to jump the queue for the premier defensive talent in Europe, have muscled their way into the deal, offering Lille exactly what they want and making great efforts to convince Yoro of the project INEOS are beginning at Old Trafford. The centre-back is believed to have been “impressed” by these lengths United officials were going to.

And, eventually, they have paid off.

Yoro has signalled his intention to accept United’s proposal, much to the delight of his boyhood club. But the 18-year-old defender is likely to be well remunerated for this decision as the contract details he has been offered are revealed.

Santi Auona, a reporter for Foot Mercato, states Yoro is set to receive a yearly salary of €9 million (£7.55 million) with bonuses, which translates to a wage in the region of £145,000 a week; though it is not yet clear what these bonuses will constitute, nor how likely it is Yoro will meet them on a weekly basis.

Tweet:

  • Lenny Yoro, his family and his agent all flew to Manchester this morning
  • MU offers approximately a salary of 9M € gross including bonus per year.
  • As explained yesterday, the Red Devils are now confident in finalizing the deal

This figure is corroborated by Florian Plettenberg, a Germany Sky Sports reporter, who writes that Yoro will receive “€7m gross + €2m possible bonus payments” a year.

Fabrizio Romano also reveals the Frenchman is set to sign a five-year deal, with the option of an additional twelve months. This style of contract is commonly used at Old Trafford and helps the club to maintain a player’s value as the expiration date nears.

Tweet: “Manchester United want to get Leny Yoro deal done as soon as possible to avoid any hijack. Contract proposal valid until June 2029 with an option for further season, salary increasing every year. Yoro, set to travel to England with his family.”

Interestingly, however, Romano contends Yoro’s salary will be “increasing every year”, suggesting this promise of a better annual wage was key to United being able to convince the youngster to choose them over Madrid, as it is not standard practice.

However, Yoro is considered a ‘generational talent’ within football circles and for United to have been able to secure his services from under the noses of Madrid is a massive statement for INEOS in their first transfer window at the helm at Old Trafford. The type which is worth moving away from standard practices for.
