Joshua Zirkzee’s long-term future at Manchester United has already come into question, with clubs in Italy understood to be interested in the young striker.
The Netherlands international established himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A after leaving Bayern Munich for Bologna.
Under Thiago Motta, he impressed with his ability to drop deep and link up with his teammates and trouble defences with his movement and dribbling.
A number of top European clubs took note of his skill-sets and potential before United eventually secured his services for a reported £36.5 million fee this summer.
The 23-year-old started strongly at Old Trafford, marking his debut with a goal against Fulham. However, that has been the only goal he has managed to register in 10 appearances for his new club.
In the last two United games, Erik ten Hag picked Rasmus Hojlund over Zirkzee in his starting lineup. The situation has led to suggestions of a surprise early exit.
According to Calciomercato.it (via Sport Witness), it will become clear in a few months if Zirkzee will follow Romelu Lukaku’s footsteps and quickly return to Serie A after a disappointing Premier League move from an Italian outfit.
Lukaku, who left United for Inter Milan in 2019, returned to England to re-join Chelsea in 2021. However, the move did not go as planned and the Belgian striker found himself back in Italy in no time.
It is claimed if things do not improve, an exit at the end of the season is possible.
The likes of AC Milan, Juventus, and AS Roma are reportedly interested and could make an attempt and engineer an early “separation”.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report suggesting Juve are open to reuniting Zirkzee with Motta in January.
However, considering it is still very early days in the Dutchman’s career in England, it is likely United’s recruitment team would wait a little longer before making any concrete decision on his future.
