Chelsea have ordered reported Manchester United target Trevoh Chalobah to keep away from accessing first-team areas as they seek to force him out of the club before deadline day.

Chalobah is a player United have been repeatedly linked to amidst Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ desire to bolster Erik ten Hag’s backline options.

Earlier this summer, it was claimed that the Red Devils were considering a £25 million swoop for the Chelsea star.

It was subsequently relayed that United were keen on selling misfiring winger Antony and then funnelling the proceeds from his sale towards acquiring Chalobah.

The 25-year-old was excluded from Chelsea’s squad for their pre-season tour to the USA as he was told to stay home.

The Telegraph have now revealed that the Blues have taken another drastic step to part ways with the England international, which could massively help United if they remain eager to add him to their ranks this summer.

According to the newspaper, “Trevoh Chalobah has been barred from using Chelsea’s first-team facilities as the club negotiates his exit. Telegraph Sport can reveal that other than training with Chelsea’s development squad, Chalobah has been kept away from the first-team building at the club’s Cobham training base.”

“That means Chalobah, who joined Chelsea at the age of eight, must spend his time away from the first-team squad in the academy building until he agrees to a move away from the club.”

“With his time at Chelsea apparently coming to a close, he is understood to have acted professionally and accepted the club’s orders, even though they have surprised some of his team-mates.”

It’s understood that Enzo Maresca’s side want players who are not part of their plans to focus on their future plans rather than being given “a false impression of their prospects.”

The Telegraph note that Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are eyeing Chalobah, who turned down a transfer to Nottingham Forest last summer.

However, it’s unlikely that United will make a move for Chalobah, in the current window. This is primarily because the 20-time English champions are on the brink of finalizing a switch to Old Trafford for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

On Saturday, the reliable David Ornstein broke the news that United had reached an agreement with Bayern for De Ligt. Fabrizio Romano confirmed as much just moments later.

If De Ligt’s move to United gets over the line, he will be the club’s second centre-back signing after Leny Yoro from Lille. With United also in need of midfield reinforcements, purchasing another central defender is not on the table.
