Tyson Fury is already talking about a trilogy against Oleksandr Usyk after their rematch on December 21st.
Fury feels that he will be victorious in the second fight with WBA, WBC, and WBO heavyweight champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) in Riyadh. Rather than move on and face someone else, like Martin Bakole, Daniel Dubois, or Anthony Joshua, Fury Wants a trilogy with Usyk.
It’s difficult to know if Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) is serious about the trilogy because His Excellency Turki Alalshikh wants to see him and Joshua fight in 2025. That’s the fight that he and the fans want to see.
Even if Fury does beat Usyk in their rematch on December 21st, fans would want to see him face Joshua or someone else to keep things fresh. However, the reality is that Fury will likely lose to Usyk, and won’t anything to do with a trilogy match after that.
Fury would look like a glutton for punishment if he stubbornly chose to fight Usyk a third time after being whipped a second time. He might justify taking the trilogy by saying he deserved the win, which is what he did this time. He still feels he won the previous fight against Usyk on May 18th. Fury would look like a pathetic sore loser if he chose to muddy the water by crying that he should have won, which he did last time.
Many fans believe it was a clear win for Usyk, and they think the three judges who worked the fight scored it much closer than it should have been.
I watched the fight and saw Usyk win 8-4. It wasn’t close at all. The referee stepped and prevented Usyk from knocking out Fury in the ninth round with his bizarre standing eight count, altering the outcome of the fight and saving Tyson from being knocked out.
The Scores
– 115-112 – Usyk
– 114-113 – Fury
– 114-113 – Usyk
“I’d like to have a trilogy match with Usyk because then it would be 1-1,” said Tyson Fury to Sky Sports News Boxing about what his plans are after he fights Oleksandr Usyk on December 21st. “I do exactly the same thing but don’t get a standing eight count in round nine, and I win comfortably.
